Description

Simple walk-through explaining new features such as GPUs, SIMD support in FFTW, SSE2, SSE4, AVX128 vs AVX256, etc. We will also have to explain that they need different binaries for different hardware now.

We have installation instructions (http://www.gromacs.org/Documentation/Installation_Instructions), and some of these features are touched upon there. So far I've had zero feedback, so something concrete would be welcome. The point about binary incompatibility is good, and the instructions need to make that more clear - but wasn't it always true? You couldn't run the IA64 kernels other places, etc?

We've had http://www.gromacs.org/Documentation/Acceleration_and_parallelization for a long time. It's good in its way, but it isn't simple. I'm skeptical that there is a way to have a "simple" walk-through that isn't a wall of text explaining acronyms and the complex conditions under which you might care about which of them. We do need to try, somehow...
