Description

Related to #1070, we need to overhaul the GPU documentation on the website. There was some great discussion on the previous issue, but when it was closed (with respect to the manual documentation), I think we lost track of the need to fix the website. Given the strong response to the NVIDIA webinar and many questions that have been asked on gmx-users, I think we need to update [[www.gromacs.org/gpu]] ASAP. The information there is almost all completely irrelevant and does not showcase the awesome stuff the development team has done.

I agree with Justin. Some substantive action is required, or we risk losing the benefit of the good PR we have after our good software engineering. Action on much of #1070 is long overdue.

As an interim measure, I renamed the page to which www.gromacs.org/gpu points to "GROMACS-OpenMM" since all of the content there is about that, and put some links to what documentation we do have about GPUs. We'd much rather have the main GPU page talk about our native CUDA implementation and delegate the old stuff to another page.

I can put together some skeleton along the lines of http://redmine.gromacs.org/issues/1070#note-8, but there are details I simply cannot provide.

AFAIK we have published zero performance numbers on GPUs anywhere. Lots of informal things. But if we can't put a nice graph of something on our own website, things are badly wrong!

Agreed; I just reserved wednesday to friday next week for wrapping up a Gromacs-GPU paper, so updating the website at the same time sounds like a good idea ;-)

We can close this one - the GPU information on the website has been updated, and there are plans for more centralized system for documentation maintenance.
