Description

Might it be worth adding sha256 or sha512 hashes on the releases? A number of projects, such as spack, seem to be less happy with md5sums. At the moment only the md5sum is published.

That would be a nice project for someone new looking to contribute. There's multiple places in admin, docs, and tests that have to be changed in tandem. git grep -i md5 is one's friend.

Ok. md5 seems to be used for verification in a number of places, with md5 calculation scripts at:
src/gromacs/fileio/md5.cpp
src/external/tng_io/src/lib/md5.c
src/external/clFFT/src/library/md5sum.cpp

However, Cpack can generate tar.gz files at release. Cmake can also calculate sha256. Is it
reasonable to automate this for the release, and leave md5sums at present in rest of the code?
